nothing personal

sometimes my words fly out of my mouth too fast for me to catch them.

they accelerate until the dive into ear canals and start stomping on drums.

it’s not that i meant for them to hear it.

it was really nothing personal.

and personally, i think everyone blurts out harsh tones and ignorant notes every once and a while.

and i’ll be the first to admit

i’m not always right.

but i’ll be the last to admit that i’m wrong.

pride doesn’t hide between wrinkles, sink into pores, or disappear with the hair tucked behind my ear.

it sings proud lyrics through every word my mouth plays with no rewind.

it forms letters that create words that should have never been heard.

pride doesn’t pick when to show up.

it never fades away.

sometimes words shoot from my lips faster than the bullets from soldiers guns.

they zoom towards innocent individuals and start piercing their already bruised soul.

it’s not like i meant for them to hurt.

it was really nothing personal.
